The Crinkle Technique is a simple method of creating a naturally textured watercolor painting that closely resembles trees, leaves, branches, grass, foliage, etc.. Mary Fran learned this technique from the renown watercolor artist, Cheng-Khee Chee, AWS, where oriental masa paper (waxed coated) is dipped into water and then gently squeezed out with your hands, breaking up the wax coating. Watercolor is painted over the smoothed out surface, filling in the cracks producing a magical, naturally textured painting.
