As an artist, capturing not only the likeness but the emotion of an object has always intrigued me. Being able to paint a moment in time that others can identify with is a challenge that I love.

Retha takes the inspiration for her most recent series of work from travels both regional and internationally. Everything from small cafes to country farmers can lend an interesting face or form to a painting. Through her use of color, composition, and sensitivity to the people she paints, Retha has become a national award winning watercolor artist.

She studied Illustration/Graphic Design at the University of Kansas. There she learned her love for watercolor and for painting the human form.

Retha teaches workshops around the United States and takes commissioned works from her Pittsford, Vermont home studio. She recently returned from Shanghai China, where she was asked to teach workshops for two leading Chinese art institutes in Hangzhou and Nanjing. Retha is a spokesartist for the watermedia paint manufacturer Dr. Ph. Martin's in Golden, Colorado. Her work can currently be seen in Brandon Artists Guild, Brandon, Vermont, and in several national artist magazines including The Artist's Magazine, May 2007, American Artist, June 2007, and Watercolor Magic, June and August 2007 editions.
