STARRING BRANDON

Each year we sponsor an artistic extravaganza challenging artists to follow the theme in creating an objet d’art.  The theme for our new public art project is “Starring Brandon” which was chosen to honor and highlight this wonderful community.  Where in other years, all the artists worked on the same basic shape – pigs, birdhouses, rocking chairs, etc. – for this year all the artists are free to let their imaginations run wild.  Some pieces are large, some small.  Some is art designed for the outdoors, some for intimate indoor settings.  There is sculpture, jewelry, delicate designs and outsized ideas.  But all incorporate a star in some way or other.
Twenty pieces were selected for the Annual Auction – which takes place October 10th in Brandon’s Town Hall.  The works of art have been placed in merchants’ shops and storefront windows around the town – maps for their locations can be picked up in the Guild’s gallery on 7 Center Street.  The village has also been decorated with large, oversized wooden “Galaxy” stars.  People interested in purchasing one of these stars can place a mystery bid at the gallery – winners will be revealed the night of the auction. Funds raised at the auction support the arts in the area schools, the district’s after-school art program, and other ongoing, arts related events.

Pearls of Light
By BONNIE BAIRD

Going home as a child from my grandparents there was a farm that we always passed with a very unusual silo that intrigued me. The sparkling canopy of stars hung like an elegant string of pearls that only a queen would wear. From a child’s eyes it was totally enchanting.

Box of Stars
By RODNEY BATSCHELET

Melding stereoscopic viewing with modern materials this fusion of old and new exudes a distinctly steampunk feel.  It comes with six limited edition stereoscopic prints of Rod’s paintings especially designed to produce stereoscopic images.

Falling Stars
By MAGGIE BOISE

As a jeweler, I love working with wire and beads. This was a challenge for me. The gleam of copper and sparkle of beach glass beads makes me think of a twinkling summer sky.
